I've been seeing these everywhere this week! You buy the pdf online, print it out, and fold it up. This etsy shop has lots of them, including mushroom cottages, chocolate cake, and my favorite, a gingerbread house.

Strawberry Pillows!

I just saw these a few days ago on Purl Bee, and I love them! I don't know why I had never thought of food pillows before - the best I had come up with was pillows with an appliqued cupcake or food print fabric. These are fantastic! They look so happy and summer-y. There's a full tutorial with lots of pictures. Hmm... I wonder if I could make cupcake-shaped pillows?

Felt Food

Sorry it's been so long since the last update - our internet has been down for a while. So glad it's finally back! And school starts up again on Monday - this is my last year of my MS at Tech, then finally off to another school somewhere else!

So if you follow the craft blog circuit, you've probably seen the felt food craze. I think they're really cute, but I have to admit, I don't know what I'd do with them. The ones that were made as toys for young children make sense, and I bet you could do pet toys, but since I have neither, I don't think I'll be making these. Anyway, here's a great beaded pizza and a burger and fries. Delicious!

Quilt Update

So remember how I sent my food fabric quilt off to the shop to get finished? It's finally here! It took almost a month, but the shop was busy. I used a red fabric with balls (that happen to look like gumballs) for the back, which you can see on the edges. A shot of the finished quilt:

It's my first quilt, so I'm pretty excited. I don't think it looks professional - there are a few flaws that bother me, and it's a little on the small side - but considering I'd never done one before, I'm happy. I had originally wanted to use red thread for the quilting (the stitching on top) but my mom and the lady at the store talked me into using variegated. I'm glad they did, because all of the colors look good.


Now if only I could make some headway on that applique quilt!

DMC Cupcake embroidery patterns

I love cross stitching and I used to be good at embroidery. I'd like to get back into it...and what better way than with the adorable cupcake patterns from DMC? I can see these on aprons, sweaters, maybe even a dress. Or maybe a purse...

Which reminds me: does anyone know how to make a baguette purse? This is what they look like:


I had a Reese's Pieces one, but it's worn out. I'd like to make a new one using food fabrics, but I can't find a pattern. I found a site that has patterns for other purses, and one that lets you pick your fabric when you order one, but I've seen that fabric at stores near me, and if I make it myself, I know it will be the right size. Any suggestions?

Cupcake Scrapbooking

Quick post - I just found Little Yellow Bicycle's new Cupcake Love Collection of cupcake scrapbooking materials. I love all of it!

I had never heard of the company before, but after browsing through their collections, I'm hooked! If you like scrapbooking, take a look!

I'm back! Potter World was really fun, even if it was crowded and hot. Honeydukes was a big disappointment, though - it's all really cheap quality chocolate. If you go, don't waste your money on it.



So today's cool food craft is Schlosser Designs' Strawberry Boxes. They're absolutely adorable, and they really are the size of real strawberries - which, in my mind, makes them the perfect size to hold a Hershey's kiss or two. Sweets Applique Quilt

I am leaving tomorrow on my trip to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter (yay!) and I wanted to get one last post in before I go. Lately I have been working on a new quilt - it's my first applique, so we'll see how it goes. There will be 5 patterns, each done twice. I designed my own patterns for this - I googled patterns and saw that they were just simple drawings. Making your own is really easy! So today's Square of the Day is...

...the cupcake! Originally I cut it out with a 1/4 inch seam allowance, which is what you can see in the picture. But then along came Wonder-Under, which is great because you can make detailed cuts without worrying about the seams messing it up.

*edit – now I’ve just gone through the fabric and almost all of the pieces have come off. The W-U didn’t even last 24 hours…that’s pretty disappointing. Is there a trick to it? Anyway, here’s the sketch for the new quilt.


More of the cupcake without the seam allowance (and the blue fabric with the chocolates will be every other square – that’s the shaded part on the sketch).
